DMCA and content notices

How to report a copyright concern, and how to respond to a notice.

Last updated: 2026-11-03

We respect the rights of creators. Remove Background Noise processes recordings that users choose to upload, so this page explains what we hold and how to report a concern.

What we store

We do not host or publish user recordings. Cleaned audio is private to the account that created it, is never listed or searchable, and is deleted within 24 hours. Original video is never uploaded. Because of this, public takedown requests rarely apply, but we take rights concerns seriously and act on valid notices.

Sending a notice

If you believe a recording processed through the service infringes your copyright, email support@removebackgroundnoise.org with the subject "DMCA notice" and include:

  1. Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  2. A description of the copyrighted work you say is infringed.
  3. Enough information for us to find the task: the approximate date and time, and any task link or reference you have. We cannot search recordings by content, so a vague notice may not be actionable.
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  5. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner of the right, or authorised to act for the owner.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

Please be accurate. Knowingly sending a false notice can make you liable for damages.

What we do

We acknowledge a complete notice within 2 business days. We may remove the stored copy and pause the task or the account while we review. We may pass a copy of your notice, including your contact details, to the account holder. If your notice is incomplete, we will tell you what is missing.

Counter-notice

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or that you have the right to process it, email us with the subject "Counter-notice" and include:

  1. Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
  2. A description of the content that was removed and where it was before removal.
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the content was removed by mistake or misidentification.
  4. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the court for your address (or, outside the United States, a court where we can be found) and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

We pass the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have started legal action, we may restore the content where it is still available. Because cleaned audio is kept for 24 hours only, it may no longer exist by then.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of users who are repeatedly found to infringe copyright.
